Trust and Obey

Greetings in the Magnificent Name of our God!

My focus today, is on one of the foundational truths of Genesis. In particular, it’s the story of Abraham and how he became known as the father of faith. In Genesis 12:1 we read, “Now the Lord had said to Abram, get thee out of thy country, and from thy kindred, and from thy father’s house, unto a land that I will shew thee.” Hebrews 11:8 elaborates on this truth even further. It says, “By faith Abraham, when he was called to go out into a place which he should after receive for an inheritance, obeyed; and he went out, not knowing whither he went.” Again, let me emphasize that last part, “he obeyed, and went out not knowing where he was going.”

As I’ve already stated, the book of Genesis is a foundational book. In other words, it gives us a base, a core, an essential truth upon which we can build our lives. In this case, it reveals to us that true faith is not about chasing or seeking a word, it’s about obeying God’s word even when you don’t have all the particulars. In fact, to lose sight of this truth is to set yourself up for deception.

Remember Eve, by the way, this story is also found in the book of Genesis; but Eve’s fall didn’t come because she didn’t have God’s word, it came because rather than just obeying what God had said, she wanted to know more. In other words, she wanted know all the details. She wanted to know the “why’s, the how comes, and the what if’s.”

Well let me challenge you today. Faith isn’t found in knowing all the details, faith is merely trusting and doing what God’s word says. Well let me ask, what is the foundation of your faith? Is it obedience, or is it “why, how come, or what if?”

As always, may God bless you richly!
